TEN long years of little sleep, no sleep, very erratic sleep and the occasional good night of sleep. Sound familiar? Ever find yourself laying in bed, the house quiet and 'everything as it should be' but your mind just won't shut off the 'what ifs', the 'if only's' or, you find yourself tossing over to your other side(one more time) looking to blissfully drift off to sleep and end up thinking about how you would rearrange your living room furniture? These nights lead to a LOT of googling "how to get a good night of sleep." The following are answers I found over a 10 year span that actually work.

Magnesium Glycinate. I'm going to leave the science to the googles. My experience is that it seemed to calm my whole body down including my mind in a very gentle way.  I began by taking 2 pills right before bed. If you have ridges in your fingernails, restless legs or are prone to leg cramps you are likely Mg deficient. Did you know Mg is involved in over 300 functions in the body?

Blackout Curtains. ALL light creeping in my room had to go. No red glowing dots anywhere, no phone in the bedroom. I also bought an alarm clock with a dial to shut off the light. And yes, put tape over the power cord lights.

Lavender Essential Oil. On the tips of both big toes right before bed. Thank You massage therapist! Essential oils vary from being very beneficial to your health (Young Living won out after researching SO many others). While others can be detrimental to your health (most other essential oils - no matter what the bottle says). So when you hear me speak about essential oils please know it will only mean Young Living. And you are worth the very best!

Diffusing Lavender + Cedarwood. All.Night.Long. I am a big fan of diffusing. A diffuser is something you buy to put water and essential oils in to be dispersed as an aerosol to make the room smell nice & to accomplish health benefits.  In my case, the diffuser made ALL the difference in the world in how well and how long I slept. When essential oils are diffused we breathe the oils in and within seconds they are in every organ of our body and have the ability to cross the blood brain barrier. THIS is why it's so important to only use the BEST essential oils.

Mineral Essence. The events of everyday living demand a continual ingestion of minerals, ideally these would come from our food but given current farming practices it just isn't enough. Think of this as an insurance plan that covers you when you eat too many french fries and not enough broccoli. The essential oils in it aid absorption so you get the full value!

Cortistop. Feeling stressed or pressed to get things done during the day? Cortisol is a hormone involved in helping you 'get stuff done'.  But when Cortisol stays elevated for long periods it can begin affecting multiple systems throughout the body. Young Living's Cortistop is an herb and essential oil supplement. It was designed to support the body during seasons of stress by working with the body's natural balancing system. When you take 2 capsules at night it helps the body down regulate to a more relaxed state. I find taking it 2 hours before bedtime is optimum for me.

Progessence Plus. It turns out I was estrogen dominant and my hormones were like an overturned apple cart. At first I used a bio identical (expensive) progesterone that insurance wouldn't pay for. And then I found this little gem! Progessence Plus. Created by Dr. Dan Purser out of wild yam extract. Economical, efficient, and calming. It brought all my levels back in range.

EMF's. Electrical Magnetic Frequencies. Where is your router located? Are you able to switch it off at night? Where is your 'smart meter' for your electricity located? Is it outside your bedroom wall? Again, a search on the googles will give you information about the impact EMF's has not only on our brain but also how it can potentially impact your body.

Sound Machine. Amazon has many reliable ones. I won't suggest downloading an app on your phone because sleeping with your phone that close to your head all night will not promote good sleep.

Scripture. I memorized the 23 Psalm which is very soothing to me. There is also another verse that I call to mind if I am delayed in getting to sleep. Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee. Repeating this to myself until I drift has worked even when I haven't had access to the oils, supplements or diffuser.

So, this is my story of a long journey with many ups and downs. There is more to it but this gives you the high points that gave me the answers that I needed to find quality sleep consistently! Hit me up if you have any specific questions. I'm always happy to help!
